A Joining of Faiths at a Mos Def Concert

Young Muslim American Voices Interviews Edina Lekovic

I was recently at a Mos Def concert, and I was surrounded by people of all different walks of life and all different stripes, all different faiths. There was a man next to me with a yarmulke. There was a woman next to me who had a large cross around her neck. And there was myself with a head scarf. To me, enjoying everything that America has to offer, including our pop culture, including culture and art and music, was all about what it means to be Muslim in America alongside people of other faiths and other backgrounds.
