Video: Extreme weather in the United States
2010 was a year of living dangerously, both in the United States and around the world.
Here at home, extreme weather events including record-breaking rains, floods, and snowstorms [striking images of each] led to 81 official disasters. These cost more than 380 people their lives. They also caused 1,700 injuries and nearly $7 billion of property damage.
And this year we've already suffered from severe floods and storms.
Scientists tell us these kind of extreme weather events will only get worse if we don't cut the carbon dioxide pollution that causes global warming.
We've been warned.
This is our country.
This is our country on global warming.
